Hiiiiiiiiiii there! I am The Niggress and here is my first blog post so kindly read and send in your comments.

Huh?! Do you mean Fear of Failure? No, I actually am referring to Achievemephobia (yes, there is something like that and FYI, it is a real social phobia). The Fear of Success is actually quite common, albeit so many people do not recognise this feeling which causes them to lose out on a lot of life’s opportunities. When we are too afraid to take risks and move forward on our goals either consciously or unconsciously, we get stuck in one place, neither going forward or moving backwards.

The biggest problem and irony for many people is that their fear of success is largely unconscious. They just don’t realise that they’ve been holding themselves back from doing something great. I honestly think that this affects us more than we know or are willing to admit so I am going to try to write extensively on this, perhaps, we might just come up with a series, you know, lol.

First and foremost, I would like to educate you on what this weird and life-stagnating phobia is about. Kindly permit me to call this Part 1. Also, I am going to trrrrrryyyyy to differentiate the Fear of Success from the Fear of Failure (they seem to be intertwined).

We are all very familiar with the Fear of Failure as it has been the theme of so many business and entrepreneurial gatherings and seminars, mentors and parents talk about it even psychology “sef no carry last”. Simply put, the Fear of Failure (also called “Atychiphobia”) is when we allow fear to stop us from doing those things that can move us forward to achieve our goals and objectives. Ponder on these quotes:

Because of the fear of failure, most people usually bite off way less than they can chew.” ― Mokokoma Mokhonoana

How many of us stop short of success on purpose? How many of us sabotage our own happiness because of failure, while miserable, is a fear we’re familiar with? With Success, however, dreams come true are a whole new kind of terrifying, an entire new species of responsibilities and disillusions, requiring a new way to think, act and become. Why do we REALLY quit? Because it’s hopeless? Or because it’s possible…” ― Jennifer De Lucy

When I stumbled upon this quote on the Fear of Success, I stopped to take a breather (I so hope you have the same reaction to it, lol). I had to really think about it as it was contrary to logic. However, upon thinking it through (Oh goodness me! Just found a new topic to write about so watch out y’all! ‘cos the Niggress is here (inside joke)), I realised even I am guilty of this. I really do stop short on success; on ideas, projects and goals that I think are too good to be true for me (I see you shaking your head, com’on you know you do that too).

It was then I realised and concluded that the workings of fear in our hearts are really insidious. It is just like the writings of the Holy Book “Guard your heart for out of it flows the issues of life”. Fear generally creeps in unexpectedly and exhibits its prowess gradually and in the subtlest of ways but with very disastrous and life- altering consequences. Come to think of it, how do you deal with something you do not even recognise·? Or let’s just say you do, how do you deal with it if you do not know why you act the way you do?

So I ask myself, what reason would we have to pass on Success? Hmmm…… I think I would just make that Part 2. And I would also talk about how to recognise the tell-tale signs of the Fear of Success.

Honestly, tho, I hope we would take out time to really think about this as I have opened our eyes to it and watch ourselves.

Thank you so much for taking out time to read this. xoxoxo!!!!!!!
